Payroll Manager Job Description

Robert Half is seeking a skilled Payroll Manager to join our esteemed client in the Ottawa-South region. This is a full-time permanent role working on-site, with no opportunity for remote work.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Process weekly union payroll and semi-monthly salaried payroll
  • Prepare reports by compiling summaries of company earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability payments, and non-taxable wages
  • Prepare year-end employee tax slips or forms and submit government filings to meet deadlines
  • Oversight of payroll departmental staff and payroll remittances filings (EHT, WSIB, WCB, Source Deductions, ROE's)
  • Ensure timely filing of multiple monthly union reports for multiple locals
  • Correspondence with union representatives, CRA, and employees, company area managers as required
  • Preparation and reconciliation of T4's at year-end
  • Ensure accurate employee file information (new and old)
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Human Resources, or related field
  • Professional Payroll designation (PCP, CPM) is preferred
  • 2+ years of proven leadership experience as a payroll manager or similar role
  • 5+ years of payroll experience
  • Great written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
  • Superb understanding of multi-provincial payroll and taxes
  • Current knowledge of payroll procedures and related laws
  • Organizational and leadership skills
  • Skilled in handling confidential business matters and information with discretion
