Job Summary

As a Payroll Specialist with the City of Ottawa, you will be responsible for reviewing and analyzing employee transactions to ensure accuracy and compliance with collective agreements, city policies, and legislative requirements. You will interpret and apply policies, guidelines, processes, and collective agreements to the review and audit of transactions submitted by departmental supervisors and managers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze employee transactions to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Interpret and apply policies, guidelines, processes, and collective agreements
  • Ensure accuracy and compliance in payroll and benefits administration
  • Provide excellent customer service to employees and management
  • Work independently and as part of a team to provide optimal client service

Requirements

  • Completion of 2-year post-secondary or community college diploma in business or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience, preferably in a Human Resources and/or Payroll functional area
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

What You Need to Know

  • Language Requirement: English oral, reading, writing
  • Police Record Check: The successful candidate will be required to complete a Criminal Records and Judicial Matters Check with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa's satisfaction.
