Job Summary

The Payroll and Pension Advisor is responsible for supporting all aspects of payroll, compensation, and pension plan administration at Hydro Ottawa. This includes verifying and ensuring the accuracy of payroll processing in accordance with statutory and contractual requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Schedule and run payroll
  • Analyze and apply relevant legislation and contractual agreements
  • Complete tax and remittance filings and reconciliation
  • Analyze and reconcile statements and remittances from CRA
  • Prepare and verify statements of earnings for employees
  • Maintain and ensure the integrity of data in the HRIS
  • Review control work processes to isolate remuneration anomalies
  • Develop and implement payroll practices and procedures
  • Participate in the introduction and implementation of new HRIS requirements and capabilities
  • Act as a resource and provide advice and support on payroll and compensation programs
  • Support the Supervisor, Compensation with the year-end reconciliation process for payroll
  • Complete year-end processes based on legislative and contractual requirements
  • Prepare monthly metrics reports
  • Assist in preparing information for various audits as required
  • Deliver on established quality targets and continually review processes and tools to improve productivity and efficiency
  • Create reports and statistical analysis for use in budget forecasting, cost management, rate adjustments, collective bargaining, etc.
  • Coordinate data collection and reconciliation processes on issues such as month-end and year-end accruals for labour, position control and analysis, leave management and the application of collective agreement provisions

Pension Plan Administration

  • Prepare and/or participate in government filings, plan audits, development of plan communications and other reporting requirements
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state/provincial, and local requirements
  • Maintain and process all pension administration forms
  • Support the Manager, Compensation, Pension & Benefits with Retirement Committee(s)
  • Ensure employee data as it relates to pension plans is maintained in the HRIS
  • Provide analysis and reporting on various aspects of pension plans
  • Ensure the timely and accurate remittance of invoices
  • Educate and counsel employees on retirement planning

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in human resources, commerce, business administration or other related program
  • Experience in payroll and pension administration
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in office productivity and collaboration tools
  • Completion of National Payroll Institute certification program courses considered an asset
  • Experience with and knowledge of financial accounting practices and tax procedures considered an asset
  • English essential, both oral and written; Bilingual (English/French) considered an asset

Pay Range Minimum

$58,456.35

Pay Range Maximum

$87,739.37
