About the Role


We are seeking a highly skilled Safety Manager to join our Project Delivery & Construction team. This key position will be responsible for providing leadership and guidance to our Project and Construction teams, ensuring projects are executed safely and using best industry practices.


The successful candidate will report directly to the Executive Vice President, Projects, Delivery & Construction, and will play a critical role in maintaining a proactive, accurate, and timely safe practices and guidance throughout the projects lifecycle, across a portfolio of large-scale renewable energy construction projects.


Key responsibilities include:



  • Providing leadership and optimal performance by managing direct reports and contractors capable of producing agreed deliverables.
  • Demonstrated capability to build, engage, lead, and motivate cross-functional teams.
  • Ensuring all applicable regulatory and compliance requirements are met, and identifying and mitigating risk that could negatively impact agreed outcomes or business results.
  • Ensuring employees and contractors are adequately trained, qualified, and competent in their roles, and compliant with mandatory training, including developing and administering technical training programs.
  • Providing recommendations based on provincial or state regulations, policies, and procedures for asset plans, mid-range forecast (MRF), annual budget, and other business planning activities.
  • Creating, fostering, and maintaining a proactive safety and psychologically safe culture.
  • Providing expert advice on safety systems, trends, response actions, and interpretation of health and safety regulations.
  • Ensuring contractor safety plans are reviewed and acknowledged prior to work commencement.
  • Ensuring all Safety training meets TransAlta's requirements and is consistent with provincial and state regulations, keeping current with changes in acts and regulations.

Requirements



  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or equivalent professional safety designation desirable.
  • Degree, diploma, or certificate in Occupational Health and Safety from a recognized Post-secondary Institution, or equivalent combination of experience.
  • NCSO and CHSC certification.
  • Expertise in developing and implementing Health & Safety Management Systems.
  • 3-7 years of progressively responsible experience in occupational health and safety in an industrial facility or industrial construction environment.
