Textiles Studio Assistant

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and organized individual to fill the position of Class Assistant in our Textiles Studio. The successful candidate will work closely with the Textiles Studio Technician and students to ensure the smooth operation of the studio facilities.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct support to the Textiles Studio Technician and students, ensuring the facilities are maintained and equipment is prepared for classes and open studios.
  • Assist Faculty and Technicians in preparing equipment, materials, and supplies for classes and demonstrations.
  • Supervise the Textiles Studio facilities and implement safety procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager, Studio Services.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a post-secondary art/design program or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of textile mediums and ability to resolve technical issues in the making process.
  • Knowledge of art terminology, history, styles, and mediums.
  • Competency in digital technology and computer applications (Adobe Creative Suite, MS Office, etc.).
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to work physically with some heavy lifting and ladder work.

Terms of Employment

Per the OPSEU Unit 2 Collective Agreement, Class Assistants are appointed for one year with consideration given for subsequent appointments up to a maximum of three years.


Hours of Work

Approximately 15-20 hours per week over the period of August 26, 2024 – May 9, 2025, excluding Winter shutdown.


Compensation

$20.96 per hour (plus 8% in lieu of benefits and vacation pay, per the provisions of the Employment Standards Act).
