Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Second Officer to join our team at Federal Fleet Services. As a key member of our vessel operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient navigation of our vessels.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Navigation and Operations: Ensure that the bridge and navigational equipment are in good working order, and maintain all navigation records in accordance with best practices and recognized navigation procedures.
  • Passage Planning: Prepare passage plans and submit them to the Master for approval, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Cargo and Port Operations: Assist in all cargo, ballast, and cargo spaces operations, and monitor cargo and ballast operations as instructed by the Chief Officer.
  • Deck and Security Watch: Ensure that a proper deck and security watch is maintained, and that the vessel remains securely moored at all times.
  • Prerequisites:
    • Citizenship: Be a Canadian citizen.
    • Passport and Medical Certificate: Possess a valid Canadian passport with an expiry date over six (6) months from the time of joining, and a valid Transport Canada medical certificate with a validity of six (6) months from the time of joining.
    • Certifications: Possess the required certification for the position held as per STCW and the Manila 2010 amendments for a vessel operating in unlimited waters, and a valid familiarization endorsement for oil.
    • Security Clearance: Obtain and hold an Enhanced Reliability security clearance, as required by the Provision of Services contract between Federal Fleet Services and Her Majesty the Queen in right of Canada, represented by the Minister of Public Services and Procurement Canada.

Requirements:

  • Education and Certifications: Possess a valid First Aid certificate as per the Standards for Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) V1/4.
  • Language: Fluency in English is required.
