About the Role

Dnaagdawenmag Binnoojiiyag Child & Family Services is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Legal Support Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Legal Services Department, you will provide administrative and clerical support to our In-House Legal Counsel, ensuring the smooth operation of our legal services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administrative Support: Provide administrative assistance to our In-House Legal Counsel, including preparing and processing court documents, coordinating with stakeholders, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Court Document Preparation: Prepare, edit, format, and process court documents, including Affidavits of Service, Protection and Status Review Applications, Notices of Hearing, and other legal documents.
  • Document Filing and Coordination: File court materials in advance of court appearances, coordinate with various stakeholders, and ensure that all necessary documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Communication and Coordination: Communicate with Agency staff, Family Service Workers, and other stakeholders to ensure that all necessary information is shared and that court dates and filing deadlines are met.
  • Record Keeping and Maintenance: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of court documents, filings, and other legal matters.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: A Legal Assistant or Office Administration Diploma or related education from an accredited community college, or a High School Diploma with emphasis on administrative courses combined with two to three years related office experience.
  • Previous Experience: Previous experience in the child protection legal field with proven skills in drafting of child protection legal documents would be an asset.
  • Indigenous Child-Wellbeing Setting: Experience working within an Indigenous Child-Wellbeing setting would be considered an asset.
