Job Title: Senior Casualty Claims Specialist

Aviva is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Casualty Claims Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Casualty Operation, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of complex claims, providing key insights to the larger claims team, and mentoring junior team members.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Proactively direct handle a pending of predominately commercial large loss and complex claims nationally, while providing brilliant customer service.
  2. Represent our customers and Aviva at mediations, arbitrations, trials and other litigation processes.
  3. Coach and mentor team members to success through sharing and development of technical and strategic skills and knowledge.
  4. Mitigate risk by collaborating with teammates to identify and effectively manage loss costs & expenses while improving system conditions that affect customer service, team environment, and financial performance.
  5. Strive to continuously improve by challenging yourself, teammates, and the casualty operation to improve performance, reduce inefficiency, and ensure that claims policies and procedures are consistently applied to the highest standard.
  6. Role model our Aviva values of care, commitment, community & confidence.
  7. Ensure key risks are identified, measured, monitored, and effectively managed.
  8. Effectively collaborate and communicate with internal and external stakeholders to identify trends and forecast large loss development while acting as a technical resource for senior management, underwriting, finance & actuary.
Requirements:
  1. Post-Secondary Education, CIP and FCIP strongly preferred.
  2. 7+ years progressive casualty claims experience across all casualty lines.
  3. Minimum 3+ years of proven experience in handling large and complex casualty claims with extensive experience in coverage analysis, investigation, and quantum evaluation. Experience in class actions, US losses, sexual abuse, property damage liability, commercial MVA, severe losses, mediations, arbitrations and trials preferred.
  4. Prior leadership experience.
  5. Expert knowledge of insurance practices, operations and processes.
  6. Good knowledge of claims center, Qlik, and appetite for data analysis and trends.
  7. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  8. Excellent coaching skills.
  9. Ability to mentor, challenge and grow with a diverse but highly experienced team.
  10. Team outlook.
  11. Excellent inter-personal skills with the ability to build strong relationships at all levels.
  12. Detail-focused, highly analytical orientation.
  13. Superior problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to think strategically.
  14. Motivation and superb organizational skills.
  15. Willingness to travel occasionally.
  16. Licensing across Canada preferred.
