Job Title: Human Resources Generalist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Human Resources Generalist to join our team at the Thunder Bay Indigenous Friendship Centre. As a key member of our HR department, you will be responsible for providing strategic HR support to our organization, ensuring that our HR practices and policies align with our values and goals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Administer staff consultation and grievance procedures to ensure a fair and respectful work environment.
  • Coordinate the activities of the HR department to ensure they meet the organization's goals and objectives.
  • Direct and control daily operations, including managing contracts, employee performance, and training and development strategies.
  • Evaluate daily operations to identify areas for improvement and implement changes as needed.
  • Motivate staff to achieve their full potential and contribute to the organization's success.
  • Plan and organize daily operations, including developing and implementing HR policies and programs.
  • Review HR projects to ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Train staff on HR policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Advise managers and employees on the interpretation of HR policies, benefit programs, and collective agreements.
  • Establish and implement policies and procedures to ensure a positive and productive work environment.
  • Plan, develop, and implement recruitment strategies to attract and retain top talent.
  • Research and prepare occupational classifications, job descriptions, and salary scales.
  • Administer benefit employment equity and other HR programs to ensure fairness and equity in the workplace.
  • Manage contracts, including negotiating and administering collective agreements.
  • Co-ordinate employee performance and appraisal programs to ensure staff are meeting their performance goals.
  • Manage training and development strategies to ensure staff have the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in their roles.
  • Oversee the analysis of employee data and information to inform HR decisions.
  • Research employee benefits and health and safety practices to recommend improvements.
  • Oversee the development of communication strategies to ensure effective internal and external communication.
  • Oversee the preparation of reports to inform HR decisions and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Advise senior management on HR-related matters, including policy development and implementation.
  • Respond to employee questions and complaints in a fair and respectful manner.
  • Hire, train, and supervise staff to ensure they have the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in their roles.
  • Liaise with management, union officials, and HR consultants to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
  • Organize staff consultation and grievance procedures to ensure a fair and respectful work environment.
  • Provide customer service to internal and external stakeholders, including employees, management, and the public.
  • Recruit and hire staff to ensure the organization has the talent and skills needed to succeed.
  • Manage knowledge and information to ensure effective decision-making and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Coach and develop staff to ensure they have the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in their roles.
  • Conduct performance reviews to ensure staff are meeting their performance goals.
  • Propose improvements to methods, systems, and procedures to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Evaluate work environments, programs, and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent disease or injury.
