Purchasing Specialist with Strategic Procurement Expertise

Job Description:

The Purchasing Specialist will play a crucial role in fostering buying practices aligned with company objectives, supporting daily operations of the Purchasing Department, and providing guidance to Buyers as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and utilize the MRP system (Syspro) to its full capability;
  • Collaborate with various departments to ensure business needs are understood and met;
  • Strategically plan purchases while optimizing and streamlining the supplier base;
  • Maintain and develop supplier relationships at all levels;
  • Proactively communicate with suppliers and service providers (i.e., freight forwarders);
  • Investigate and resolve supply issues using tactical and strategic approaches, expediting to meet urgent needs and implementing contingencies to mitigate future risks;
  • Ensure continuous communication with stakeholders;
  • Forecast product requirements;
  • Determine optimal safety stock levels and ensure such levels are consistently met and/or adjusted as appropriate based on changing demand;
  • Monitor inventory levels;
  • Ensure MRP planning parameters are accurately maintained;
  • Introduce cost savings and cost avoidances, savvy buying practices, challenge supplier price increases, negotiate price decreases, leverage economies of scale, etc.;
  • Represent Purchasing at bi-weekly scheduling meetings, as required;
  • Represent Purchasing as department lead when the Purchasing Manager is absent, as required;
  • Identify opportunities for improvement;
  • Prepare various reports as necessary;
  • Support and contribute to strategic initiatives to ensure continuous improvement;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Must be a self-starter with high attention to detail, use data-driven approaches, have excellent time management and an ability to prioritize;
  • Must have strong business acumen and effective communication skills;
  • Must demonstrate a high level of competency in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.);
  • Must be capable of delivering results and positively impacting the company's financials;
  • Must demonstrate a commitment to continuing education within the Supply Chain/Purchasing arena.

Compensation:

A competitive salary of $$75,000-$95,000, plus profit sharing and benefits.
