About the Role

Mace is seeking a highly skilled Safety and Compliance Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Consult business, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our employees, clients, and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supporting Occupational Safety, Health, and Wellbeing Strategies: Collaborate with client organizations to develop and implement effective occupational safety, health, and wellbeing strategies.
  • Collaborating with Client Teams: Influence and collaborate with client teams to implement and maintain occupational safety, health, and wellbeing programs.
  • Integrated Functional Assurance Reviews: Conduct focused integrated functional assurance reviews to ensure best practices are being implemented consistently across all applicable projects.
  • Championing Transformational Initiatives: Champion transformational occupational safety, health, and wellbeing initiatives and drive their implementation with alliance partners.
  • Lesson Learned and Business Improvement: Support a dynamic lesson learned and business improvement process for occupational safety, health, and wellbeing across the program.
  • Reporting and Data Input: Produce required reports and input data for reporting.
  • Internal and External Assurance: Assure the delivery of occupational safety, health, and wellbeing initiatives internally within the MCS team and with the client.
  • Best Practice Guides and Training: Work with the safety manager to develop best practice guides, training, presentations, and briefing packages and deliver to appropriate target audiences.
  • Safety Inspections and Audits: Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of job sites, public areas, and adjacent areas, taking necessary and timely corrective actions to eliminate unsafe acts or conditions.
  • Compliance and Regulatory Reporting: Report violations of compliance or regulatory standards to project interested parties as appropriate or required.
  • Performance Evaluation and Records: Collect reports required for records and evaluations of performance of safety programs.
  • Incident Reporting and CAPA: Ensure timely reporting of incidents and ensure that corrective and preventative actions (CAPA) related to incidents, observations, audits, and inspections are tracked and completed promptly.
  • Contractor and Subcontractor Compliance: Ensure that all contractors and subcontractors' employees comply with job site safety rules and regulations.
  • Policy and Procedure Implementation: Verify that all applicable and regulatory policies and procedures have been implemented on project sites.
  • HSE KPIs and Continuous Improvement: Supply information for HSE KPIs to the safety director to promote continuous improvement initiatives monthly.
Requirements
  • Injury Management and Incident Investigation Experience: Proven experience in injury management and incident investigation.
  • Field Safety Audit and Inspection Experience: Field safety audit and inspection experience.
  • OHS Legislation Knowledge: Profound knowledge of OHS legislation.
  • Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal and oral/written communication skills.
  • Schedule Expectations and Time Management: Experience in meeting schedule expectations and delivering work on time.
  • Safety Procedures and Training: Experience and strong technical knowledge of safety procedures and safety training.
  • Multi-Disciplinary Projects: Experienced with multi-disciplinary rail and transit projects, and/or complex civil infrastructure projects in brownfield/urban environments with adjacent infrastructure as relates to safety.
  • Organizational and Time Management Skills: Well-organized and superb time management skills.
  • Honesty, Dependability, and Responsibility: Position requires honesty, dependability, and the ability to be relied upon, responsible, and fulfill obligations.
  • Health and Safety Qualifications: Diploma or certificate in health and safety, or equivalent training and experience.
  • Professional Designation: Professional designation is preferred – NCSO, CRSP, CHSC, or equivalent.
  • Direct Onsite Safety Management Experience: Direct onsite safety management experience and health and safety practices.
  • Railroad and/or Transit Construction Projects: Experience in railroad and/or transit construction projects.
