About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Occupational Health and Safety Manager to join our team at DMC Recruitment. As a key member of our organization, you will play a critical role in ensuring a safe and healthy work environment for our clients and employees.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and Audit Safety Measures: Develop and implement effective safety protocols to ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations and company standards.
  • Promote and Maintain Safety Standards: Foster a culture of safety within the organization by promoting and maintaining high standards of safety awareness and compliance.
  • Assist with Safety Equipment Setup and Cleanup: Ensure that all safety equipment is properly set up and maintained to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Collaborate with Management to Develop and Enforce Safety Policies: Work closely with management to develop and implement safety policies and procedures that align with company goals and objectives.
  • Identify Risks and Implement Preventive Measures: Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential hazards and implement preventive measures to mitigate risks.
  • Conduct Post-Accident Investigations and Follow-Up: Investigate accidents and incidents to identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Manage WCB Claims and Return-to-Work Programs: Manage workers' compensation claims and develop return-to-work programs to ensure a safe and timely return to work for injured employees.
  • Ensure Compliance with Health and Safety Standards: Ensure that all health and safety standards are met and maintained to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Organize and Deliver Employee Safety Training: Develop and deliver safety training programs to educate employees on safety procedures and protocols.
  • Lead Monthly Safety Meetings: Lead monthly safety meetings to discuss safety topics, review safety protocols, and provide updates on safety initiatives.
  • Maintain PPE and First Aid Supplies Inventory: Ensure that all personal protective equipment (PPE) and first aid supplies are properly maintained and inventoried.
  • Handle Environmental Code Reporting and Liaise with the Ministry of Environment: Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and liaise with the Ministry of Environment to report any environmental incidents or concerns.
Qualifications
  • Relevant Education: Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Occupational Therapy, Human Resources, Kinesiology, or a related field.
  • CRSP/CSP Designation: Certified Risk Management (CRSP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation is an asset.
  • Level 2 First Aid: Level 2 First Aid certification is required; Level 3 is preferred.
  • WHIMIS, Confined Space, and Fall Protection Certifications: WHIMIS, Confined Space, and Fall Protection certifications are required.
  • Valid Driver's License: Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Work Experience: 3-5+ years of experience in occupational health and safety, preferably with WorkSafeBC experience.
  • Hands-on First Aid Experience: Hands-on first aid experience is a plus.
Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of Machinery, Vehicles, and Equipment Operations: Knowledge of machinery, vehicles, and equipment operations is required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office: Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong Communication and Public Speaking Skills: Strong communication and public speaking skills are required to lead company meetings and discussions.
  • Ability to Handle Confidential Information: Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Capable of Motivating and Leading Others: Capable of motivating and leading others in safety practices.
  • Physically Able to Meet Job Demands: Physically able to meet job demands, including lifting up to 50 lbs and working at heights.
  • Comfortable Working Near Machinery: Comfortable working near machinery in varying conditions.
