About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Insurance Solutions Analyst to join our Actuarial Department at Heartland Mutual Insurance. As an Insurance Solutions Analyst, you will play a critical role in identifying, designing, and implementing underwriting and business development solutions that drive tangible business value.

Key Responsibilities
  • Underwriting Solutions Design: Utilize your knowledge of property and casualty insurance, products, rating, risk appetite, underwriting, and broker/underwriting workflow to design underwriting and business development solutions that deliver tangible value.
  • Business Requirements Development: Collaborate with underwriting and business development units to identify and document business and system improvements, including underwriting rules, straight-through processing, Guidewire quality/efficiency improvements, and more.
  • Actuarial Rate Reviews: Provide business specifications for actuarial rate reviews.
  • IT Collaboration: Work with IT to create requirements for business and system improvements relating to Guidewire Policy Center suite plus integrations, and provide support/clarification on business-intent to system changes.
  • Testing and Quality Assurance: Collaborate with IT to provide test-case coverage and user-acceptance on Guidewire Policy Center suite of changes, and support and conduct EBT, UAT, production testing as requested.
  • Communication and Coaching: Communicate and coach underwriting and business development units on system functionality and business intent, and provide and create resources/manuals where appropriate.
  • Defect and Change Management: Support the prioritization of defects and changes, and proactively understand the business impacts of the changes to assist with scheduling.
  • Future Improvements: Maintain a log of future improvements.
  • Business Value Communication: Clearly communicate business value and outline the expected benefits of implementing recommended solutions and validate that those benefits were realized.
  • Manual Maintenance: Maintain Heartland's rating and underwriting manuals.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Complete non-rating filings with the provincial regulatory boards.
  • Policy Review: Identify, review, and report on incorrectly rated policies in our book of business.
  • Industry Trends: Identify and report on competitive and industry trends.
  • Risk Appetite Alignment: Monitor incoming new business and propose actions to align to risk-appetite, including adjustments to underwriting rules.
Requirements
  • Industry Experience: Minimum of 5 years working in the property and casualty insurance industry in either a business systems analyst, underwriting, or underwriting-related role.
  • Certification: GuideWire Policy Center Certification is an asset.
  • Insurance Solutions Expertise: Proven ability to create and deliver insurance solutions, specifically with underwriting rules, rating, and/or activities/workflows.
  • Critical Thinking: Critical thinking skills to recognize assumptions, investigate issues, evaluate arguments, draw conclusions, and proactively propose solutions.
  • Communication and Negotiation: Strong communication and negotiation skills.
