Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Student Assistant, Community Relations & Events to assist with organizing and preparing for upcoming events at Douglas College.

About the Role

The Student Assistant, Community Relations & Events will be stationed in the Anvil Centre Office and will be responsible for assisting in the planning and execution of internal and external events. This includes collaborating with team members to brainstorm creative event concepts and elements, maintaining spreadsheets, volunteer forms, signup sheets and other event documents, and assisting with event promotion.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist in the planning and execution of internal and external events, including setting up equipment, arranging decor, and providing onsite support such as working with volunteers and greeting guests.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports of event activities, including attendee lists, feedback, and inventory counts.
  • Collaborate with team members to develop and implement effective event marketing strategies, including social media promotions and email invitations.
  • Provide excellent customer service to attendees, volunteers, and colleagues, ensuring a positive experience for all stakeholders.
  • Participate in post-event activities, such as evaluating event success and making recommendations for future improvements.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a related field, such as event management or marketing.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work effectively with diverse groups and individuals.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in event planning or coordination.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and event marketing strategies.
  • Knowledge of budgeting and financial management principles.
Salary Information

The estimated salary for this position is $25-$30 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
