Student Assistant, Community Relations and Events Coordinator

The Opportunity
Join the vibrant team at Douglas College as a Student Assistant, Community Relations and Events. As a key member of the Community Relations & Events Team, you will play a vital role in the planning and execution of internal and external events. Your duties will include assisting in event planning, collaborating with team members to brainstorm creative event concepts, maintaining event documents, and supporting event promotion. - Assist in the planning and execution of internal and external events at Douglas College.
- Collaborate with the Community Relations & Events Team to brainstorm and develop creative event concepts and ideas.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date event documents, spreadsheets, and volunteer forms.
- Support event promotion through various channels, including social media and on-campus advertising.
- Participate in the setup and teardown of events, including the assembly and disassembly of equipment and materials.
- Provide exceptional customer service and support to event attendees, volunteers, and colleagues.
Requirements
- A student at Douglas College or another accredited public post-secondary institution in British Columbia.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to lift heavy equipment and materials, with a strong physical presence and stamina.
- Flexibility to work varied hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
Eligibility
Domestic students must meet one of the following criteria to be eligible for this position:
1. Be enrolled in, and maintain, a minimum of one or more (3 credit) courses at Douglas College throughout the work term.
2. Have been enrolled in, and maintained, a minimum of one or more (3 credit) courses at Douglas College in the term immediately preceding the work term and have indicated an intention to enroll at the college in the term immediately following the work term.
3. Be enrolled in, and maintain, a minimum of two or more (3 credit) courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. throughout the work term.
4. Have been enrolled in, and maintained, a minimum of two or more (3 credit) courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. in the term immediately preceding the work term and have indicated an intention to enroll at the institution in the term immediately following the work term.
International students must meet one of the following criteria to be eligible for this position:
1. Be enrolled in full-time studies at Douglas College throughout the academic year.
2. Be an international student at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. with a valid Study Permit that has the notation ‘May accept employment on or off campus if meeting eligibility criteria as per R186 (F), (V), or (W). Must cease working if no longer meeting these criteria.’
