Job Title: Support Staff for Students with Special Needs

Job Summary: We are seeking a Support Staff for Students with Special Needs to join our team at the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board. The successful candidate will provide support and guidance to students with special needs, implementing programs as outlined in their Individual Education Plan.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support and collaborate with teachers in the delivery of daily programming to meet the needs of students with special needs.
  • Implement programs as supported by the Individual Education Plan (IEP).
  • Supervise students at recess, lunch, gym, and school trips.
  • Support students with diverse needs, including physical, intellectual, behavioral, and learning disabilities.
  • Assist in implementing all Board-approved programs, including occupational therapy, physiotherapy, academic, and behavioral programs.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with students with special needs.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and written and oral skills.
  • Ability to follow policies and procedures in an appropriate and timely manner.
  • Ability to communicate in a sensitive and courteous manner with children, parents, staff, and others.
  • Understanding and commitment to confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Educational Support, Developmental Services Worker, Child and Youth Worker, or related field.
  • Behavior Management Training (BMS) and/or Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training (NVCI).
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.

  • A competitive hourly rate of $21.94, plus 4% vacation pay.
  • A casual position with flexible hours.
