Job Title: Family Support Specialist

**Job Summary:**

The Children's Aid Society of the District of Thunder Bay is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Family Support Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our staff, you will provide critical support to our Child Protection Workers in the Marathon District Office, focusing on scheduling and facilitating supervised access. Your expertise will contribute to therapeutic plans and programs for individuals, families, children, and youth receiving services from our office.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide a wide range of social service support functions to contribute to therapeutic plans and programs.
  • Support families and/or children and youth involved with the Agency, offering educative and empowering assistance.
  • Collaborate with Child Protection Workers to schedule and facilitate supervised access.
  • Contribute to a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion, with a commitment to eliminating disparity and disproportionality in service outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain thorough knowledge of child development stages, processes, and milestones.
  • Understand major risk factors related to child maltreatment and the dynamics of attachment.
  • Engage and develop trusting relationships with parents, children, and youth receiving child welfare services.
  • Work collaboratively with children and their caregivers, Agency case workers, and community collaterals.
  • Assess immediate risk concerns and respond appropriately during interactions.
  • Present balanced assessments of parenting strengths and challenges.
  • Provide parenting intervention strategies via feedback, coaching, and collaborative goal setting.
  • Work effectively under pressure and manage time efficiently.
  • Contribute to a team environment and maintain a safe driving record.

Requirements:

  • Child and Youth Worker Diploma or equivalent combination of education or experience.
  • Candidates with other academic qualifications and related work experience, plus demonstrated ability, will be considered.
  • Reliable vehicle and valid G Driver's Licence.
  • Current Criminal Records Check (Vulnerable Sector), deemed satisfactory to the employer.
