The Children's Aid Society of the District of Thunder Bay seeks a dedicated Child Welfare Specialist to join our team in Marathon.

This role is crucial for ensuring the safety and well-being of children within our community. The successful candidate will be responsible for investigating reports of child abuse and neglect, providing support services to families, and collaborating with community partners to create a safe environment for all children.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough assessments of families and individual situations to determine the level of risk and need for intervention.
  • Develop and implement individualized service plans in collaboration with families, caregivers, and community resources.
  • Provide counseling and support services to children and families facing challenging circumstances.
  • Investigate allegations of child abuse and neglect, gathering evidence and documenting findings.
  • Collaborate with other professionals, including law enforcement, healthcare providers, and educators, to ensure a coordinated approach to child protection.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Participate in case conferences, staff meetings, and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in social work or a related field preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Demonstrated understanding of child welfare principles and practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and crisis intervention skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
