The Children's Aid Society of the District of Thunder Bay is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Child Protection Worker to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will play a vital role in providing protection and counseling services to families and children, ensuring their safety and well-being.
Key Responsibilities- Provide Protection and Counseling Services: Offer support and guidance to families and children, including placing and supporting children in alternative care settings when necessary.
- Conduct Family and Individual Assessments: Gather and analyze information to assess the needs of families and children, identifying areas for intervention and support.
- Develop Partnerships and Collaborate with Community Services: Build relationships with community organizations and social services to provide comprehensive support to families and children.
- Prepare Reports and Documents: Create and submit reports, correspondence, and documents for internal and external use, including legal matters.
- Participate in Case Conferences and Staff Meetings: Engage in case conferences and staff meetings to discuss case progress, share knowledge, and receive feedback.
- Travel within the Region: Visit families and services within the region to provide support and ensure the needs of children and families are met.
- Education and Experience: Possess a B.A. or equivalent combination of education and experience. A B.S.W. or H.B.S.W. education is preferred, but candidates with other academic qualifications and related work experience will be considered.
- Cultural Competence and Diversity: Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with a focus on eliminating disparity and disproportionality in service outcomes.
- Knowledge and Skills: Possess a strong understanding of the Child Welfare Organization within the community context, as well as the ability to learn and apply theories and skill sets associated with child protection work.
- Therapeutic Approaches and Anti-Oppressive Framework: Have knowledge and experience in applying therapeutic approaches with children and families within an anti-oppressive, strengths-based, collaborative framework.
- Crisis Intervention and Risk Assessment: Demonstrate the ability to gather, integrate, and interpret complex information, as well as assess risk and formulate and carry out service plans in collaboration with families and community resources.
- Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively under pressure and manage time efficiently.
- Computer Literacy and Vehicle Requirements: Be computer literate and possess a reliable vehicle, a safe driving record, and a valid G Driver's License.
- Criminal Records Check: Submit to a Current Criminal Records Check (Vulnerable Sector) upon offer of employment.
