Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist to join our engineering division, Skynet Software, and contribute to the development of severe natural hazard models.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with a team of scientists and engineers to develop and refine catastrophe models.
  • Conduct critical evaluations of scientific literature and engage with industry experts to inform model development.
  • Design and implement high-performance scientific code in Python to drive model development.
  • Manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables with technical expertise.
  • Calibrate and validate model components, including benchmarking to historical events.
  • Research and integrate various datasets, including remotely sensed satellite imagery and geospatial information.
  • Evaluate model outputs using GIS tools.
Requirements
  • BSc, MSc, or PhD in Applied Mathematics or Physics with a strong research background.
  • Expertise in writing high-performance scientific code in Python.
  • Knowledge of mathematical modelling, numerical solutions to differential equations, optimization, and uncertainty quantification.
  • Experience with statistical evaluation of large datasets and running computer-based experiments with geophysical applications.
  • Catastrophe modelling experience, particularly in flood, wildfire, or severe weather.
