About the Role

The Government of Nova Scotia is seeking a highly skilled Data Governance Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our data management team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and timeliness of our health system data assets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to Policy Development: Provide expert advice to senior leaders and department officials on the development, interpretation, and appropriate use of key outcome measures based on expert knowledge of data classifications and related administrative datasets.
  • Data Analysis and Quality Improvement: Conduct data analysis on relational databases to identify and address data quality issues, and support data requests coming to the DHW Data Governance team.
  • Data Extracts and Reporting: Provide data extracts to internal or external stakeholders upon request, and contribute to the development of standardized reporting for performance measurement and accountability.
  • Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with departmental stakeholders to inform the development of key indicators, advise on the correct interpretation of data analyses, and promote optimal use of data standards across the Nova Scotia health system.
  • Leadership and Expertise: Contribute to the continuous improvement of provincial and national health information by providing consultation and educational support to data stewards, and promoting the development and maintenance of national and provincial data standards.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: A bachelor's degree in a related discipline with 7 years related experience in data governance, data quality, or a related field.
  • Skills and Competencies: Proficient knowledge and application of industry-standard data governance approaches and methodologies, excellent communication and collaboration skills, and a commitment to equity, inclusion, and proactive engagement.
