Job Summary

Thompson Rivers University is seeking a highly qualified Director to lead the TRU Wildfire Research, Innovation, and Education initiative. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership to build the infrastructure of the initiative, working closely with external and internal stakeholders to create a conducive environment for world-class research and education.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement strategic plans for the short- and long-term success of TRU Wildfire research, innovation, and education.
  • Secure funding from provincial, national, and international organizations to support core operational funds and ensure the successful completion of deliverables.
  • Provide administrative leadership to the development and execution of calls for proposals, letters of intent, and expressions of interest, including evaluation and peer review.
  • Establish and maintain collaborations and structural links among research, innovation, and education.
  • Work closely with TRU Wildfire training leadership and practice to ensure coordinated activities and efforts across the initiative.
  • Develop and maintain communications and relationships with investigators, government departments, industry, professional associations, and other organizations.
  • Establish good working relationships with community groups, Indigenous research partners, and funders to achieve the goals of TRU Wildfire research, innovation, and education.
Qualifications
  • PhD in a related field; Master's degree with relevant experience may be considered.
  • Content knowledge or lived experience is a strong asset.
  • Experience working with diverse populations, especially Indigenous and equity-deserving groups.
  • Research creation and completion experience, ideally with independent research.
  • Experience with academic development and approval processes.
  • Experience working with faculty on research and/or other projects.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to develop, interpret, and apply complex policies and procedures.
