Job Title: Indigenous Advisor - College

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Indigenous Advisor to join our team at Queen's University. As an Indigenous Advisor, you will play a vital role in supporting the academic and personal success of Indigenous students.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Counsel students regarding educational, career, or vocational issues, providing guidance and support to help them achieve their goals.
  • Consult with teachers, parents, administrators, and community agencies to ensure a comprehensive approach to student support.
  • Coordinate the provision of counseling and information services to students, parents, and teachers, ensuring that all parties are informed and supported.
  • Refer students to other specialized services when required, ensuring that they receive the support they need to succeed.
  • Participate in staff meetings, educational conferences, and workshops to stay up-to-date on best practices and industry developments.
  • Develop guidance and counseling programs that meet the unique needs of Indigenous students, promoting their academic and personal success.
  • Arrange for recruitment of graduating students by employers, helping to connect students with career opportunities.
  • Liaise with other social services agencies and healthcare providers involved with clients, ensuring a seamless and supportive experience for students.
Requirements:
  • 5 years or more of experience in a related field.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with students, staff, and community partners.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Judgment and the ability to make informed decisions that support the best interests of students.
  • Organized and able to prioritize tasks effectively, managing multiple responsibilities and deadlines.
