Job Summary
This role plays a pivotal part in the international student enrollment journey from point of interest to arrival on campus. The incumbent will participate in student recruitment events, ensuring effective representation of the university at various local and international venues, and plan and execute events to ensure seamless execution and impactful engagement.
The position involves managing the Study Permit compliance process, ensuring that all documentation and verifications meet government standards, and facilitating a smooth transition for incoming international students.
Key Responsibilities
- Provides services for international students, workers, and their family members through the provision of advice and guidance on issues related to immigration, student wellness, and academic support services.
- Provides advice and guidance on completing Revenue Canada income tax returns to international students and other temporary residents studying or researching at Queen's.
- Provides consultation/advice to members of faculty and staff on issues of concern regarding student cultural transition issues related to performance or behavior.
- Composes comprehensive briefings with the intention of providing pre-arrival, orientation, and as-needed information advising for incoming international students.
- Develops and delivers programming and workshops, revises materials, and makes presentations as needed, recognizing diversity of abilities and adapting content, tone, medium, and style to audience to be inclusive.
- Develops and coordinates pre-arrival and orientation programming, plans new initiatives for international student support services and programs.
- Represents QUIC by participating in the Canadian network of International Student Advisors through professional international education networks such as the Ontario Association of International Educators and the Canadian Bureau for International Education.
- Assists in developing and implementing short and long-term strategic plans related to transition and success programming for intercultural learners.
- Contributes to QUIC training programs that promote faculty, staff, and students' intercultural skills development.
- Directs, allocates, and supervises the work of other staff.
- Other duties as required in support of the department and/or unit.
Required Education
- Four-Year Bachelor Degree or equivalent. In addition, requires trade certification, qualification, or ongoing learning to remain ahead of changes in technology or emerging fields.
Required Experience
- More than 3 years and up to and including 5 years of experience.
Required Licenses and Certifications
- Regulated International Student Immigration Advisor (RISIA)

- Identify opportunities to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of work processes.
- Seek information and input to fully understand the cause of problems.
- Appropriately assesses risks before making a decision.
- Contribute to the creation and evaluation of possible solutions.
- Take action to remove obstacles and address problems before the impact performance and results.
- Apply equity, diversity, accessibility, inclusion, and Indigenization considerations to decision making and planning.
- Promote a work environment that is free from sexual violence, harassment, and discrimination, and the ability to show empathy for those who have experienced trauma.
- Assess the suitability of job candidates and recommend the most appropriate person for hire.
- Monitor and assess output and the quality of work from team members and recommend need for formal training or development plans to management and identify possible performance and/or disciplinary issues.
