Estimated Salary: $120,000 - $180,000 per year

Job Description

The Senior Superintendent plays a crucial role in the success of our projects. Reporting to the Field Operations Manager, this position is responsible for coordinating and supervising site work.

Responsibilities

  • Developing Safety Culture: The Senior Superintendent develops, implements, and maintains the Magil safety program, creating a strong jobsite safety culture through mentorship and modeling.
  • Schedule Challenges: This position provides support to project teams with schedule challenges and helps develop recovery plans.
  • Project Progress: The Senior Superintendent oversees project progress, ensuring performance, productivity, quality, and safety requirements are met.
  • Client Liaison: Liaises with clients, consultants, and trades when escalation is required by the site team.
  • Team Supervision: Supervises, directs, coaches, trains, and mentors the project teams on multiple sites.
  • Project Vision: Assists teams in developing the vision for an entire project, identifies critical path, anticipates constructability issues, troubleshoots, and embeds solutions in construction plans and schedules.
  • Project Execution: Works with the Site Superintendent and project management team to develop and implement a Project Execution Plan.
  • Cost Control: Ensures prompt scheduling, coordination, and effective cost control pertaining to project labor, equipment, and materials is managed by site staff.
  • Industry Knowledge: Stays current with industry practices and seeks new and innovative construction methods and initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Journeyman Certificate or Diploma/degree: Journeyman certificate or post-secondary diploma/degree in a related discipline.
  • Progressive Experience: 20+ years of progressive experience in field supervision preferred.
  • Security Clearances: Eligible for project security clearances.

Competencies

  • Risk Management: Reviews and understands the contract and subcontracts, helping project teams identify and mitigate risks (e.g., scope gaps) and maximize opportunities to achieve financial targets.
  • Complex Engineering Principles: Understanding of project scope and ability to apply complex engineering principles to construction challenges and embed solutions in construction plans and schedules.
  • Value Engineering: Ability to complete value engineering and define scope and limitations for pursuits.
  • Contract Language: Thorough understanding of contract language and ability to identify and mitigate risks and leverage opportunities.
  • Safety and Environment: In-depth knowledge of and application of safety and environmental principles/procedures/legislation and demonstrated experience in implementing a strong safety culture.
  • Mentorship: Ability to mentor field staff in effective ways to lead site meetings with the client, consultants, trades, and own workforce.
  • Presentation Skills: Capable of presenting at client meetings or for project pursuit work.
  • General Requirements: Expert understanding in management of general requirements on projects and communicating this skill to the field staff.

Experience

  • Scheduling and Mentoring: Experience with scheduling, monitoring, and mentoring others on forecasting resources.
  • Field Staff Management: Ability to manage field staff on multiple projects, including coordination of all scopes.
  • Construction Industry Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of and experience in the construction industry and company operations, including building materials, construction specifications, and methods and procedures.
  • Grievance Mitigation: Experience mitigating grievance and employee relations issues.
