Position Summary


We are seeking a highly motivated Safety Compliance Specialist to join our team at the University of Regina. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with legislated Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS) regulations and the National Fire Code of Canada.

About the Role:
  • You will work closely with key stakeholders to ensure updated Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) are obtained and distributed as required.
  • Create and distribute workplace labels for decanted or created hazardous products.
  • Manage, reconcile, and maintain hazardous product inventories across campus using the U of R chemical inventory database.
  • Provide assessments and recommendations for chemical purchases made by lab personnel.
  • Develop and implement inspection policies and procedures focused on chemical storage, quantity, compatibility, and regulatory compliance.
  • Educate stakeholders on proper chemical storage, identify compatibility issues, and other hazards associated with chemical materials storage.
  • Write reports on deficiencies found and provide consultation on remediation activities.
  • Collect and analyze data related to chemical storage practices, processes, and policies, as well as hazardous material inventory practices, processes, and policies.
  • Create and manage a reporting system to keep Regina Fire and Protective Services informed on fire loads.
  • Advise stakeholders on chemical inventory management best-practices and assist in building management plans tailored to their needs.
