Indigenous Youth Outreach Specialist

Directions Youth Services, a division of Family Services of Greater Vancouver, is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Indigenous Youth Outreach Worker to join our team. As a key member of our outreach program, you will play a vital role in promoting the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness of Indigenous youth in our community.
Job SummaryWe are looking for a skilled and experienced individual to provide outreach services to Indigenous youth who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness. The successful candidate will work closely with our team to identify the unique needs of each youth and provide support, encouragement, and education to help them access culturally appropriate services and resources.
Key Responsibilities- Provide outreach services to Indigenous youth in our community, including those who are unhoused, precariously housed, or sleeping rough.
- Develop and provide programming and workshops that incorporate Indigenous practices and knowledges, in ways that reflect the needs and interests of Indigenous youth in urban settings.
- Work closely with our team and other community agencies to develop youth case management plans that reflect the unique needs and identities of Indigenous youth.
- Respond to emerging needs and crises in the community, prioritizing tasks as they arise.
- Two-year post-secondary course or diploma in social work or youth care, or a related field.
- Minimum one year of experience working with Indigenous youth.
- Knowledge of substance use, mental health, and sexual exploitation, as well as the Harm Reduction model.
- Ability to deal effectively with conflict situations, manage aggressive behavior, and use non-violent crisis intervention and behavioral management techniques.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position, including carrying a full backpack containing harm reduction supplies, water, and snacks while walking for 2-5 hours.
