Indigenous Youth Support Worker

At the Urban Native Youth Association (UNYA), we strive to provide meaningful opportunities for Indigenous youth. Our philosophy of care foundation is grounded in best practices, empowering our staff to meet youth where they are at and foster a consistent quality of care.
We are seeking a Relief Youth Care Counsellor (YCC) to join our team. As part of our youth center catering to Indigenous youth aged 15-30, the YCC will assist the Program Manager(s) in developing, executing, and day-to-day duties of specific drop-in programs. These programs include arts and culture, sports and recreation, education, and support for LGBTQ2S+ youth.
The ideal candidate must be able to work well with the entire UNYA team, contribute to providing support to youth, and connect them with relevant community resources. Regular working hours will generally be between 12pm – 8pm Monday to Thursday, and 9am – 5pm on Fridays. This position reports directly to the Program Manager(s) and Director of Youth Engagement.
Job Requirements- Relevant educational experience, 2 years of experience working in a related field, or a combination of relevant education, training, and experience.
- Experience working with Indigenous youth and/or community organizations.
- Broad-based knowledge of family and social issues that Indigenous youth face today, including intergenerational impacts of residential schools.
- A good understanding of Indigenous cultures and traditions.
Key responsibilities include creating a safe space for all youth, responding to behaviors through a trauma-informed lens, and making referrals to relevant programs and services. The successful candidate must have excellent organizational, communication, and prioritization skills, as well as a professional and positive attitude.
