Directions Youth Services, a division of Family Services of Greater Vancouver, is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Indigenous Youth Outreach Worker to join our team. As a key member of our outreach program, you will play a vital role in promoting the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness of Indigenous youth in our community.

Job Summary

The Indigenous Youth Outreach Worker will provide outreach services to Indigenous youth, ages 24 and under, who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of homelessness. You will work closely with youth to identify their individual needs and provide support, encouragement, and education to connect them with culturally appropriate services and resources.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide outreach services to Indigenous youth, ages 24 and under, who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of homelessness.
  • Identify youth's individual needs and provide support, encouragement, and education to connect them with culturally appropriate services and resources.
  • Develop and provide programming and workshops that incorporate Indigenous practices and knowledges, in ways that reflect the needs and interests of Indigenous youth in urban settings.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with all of Directions Youth Services, other community agencies, and government ministries in the development of youth case management plans, using practices that reflect the unique needs and identities of Indigenous youth.
Requirements
  • Two year post-secondary course/diploma in social work or youth care/certificate in related field.
  • Minimum 1 year experience working with Indigenous youth.
  • Experience with adolescent development and the impacts of substance use, mental health challenges, poverty, neurodiversity, and/or marginalization on youth.
  • Lived experience is considered an asset.
