About the Role

Recovery Alberta is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join our team as the General Counsel. In this role, you will provide strategic legal advice and leadership to our executive team and Board of Directors, ensuring the organization's compliance with all relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide legal and risk management expertise to the executive team and Board of Directors
  • Manage the legal affairs of Recovery Alberta, including health law, labour relations and employment matters, corporate/commercial matters, contractual language, privacy and freedom of information policy, legal trends, and risk
  • Oversee and coordinate input from other legal advisors, including those in Alberta Health and Justice and Solicitor General, and external legal counsel as required
  • Ensure Recovery Alberta's compliance with all legislative, regulatory, and applicable legal requirements
  • Assess legal liability and provide risk management and mitigation strategies
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with local, provincial, and national representatives and stakeholders, including government departments and officials
Requirements
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, including comfort with decision-making and exercising sound legal and business judgment
  • Demonstrated ability for organizational planning and to develop organizational strategy
  • Demonstrated ability to lead strategic initiatives and manage change to achieve positive results
  • Ability to influence, negotiate, and mediate resolutions to complex situations
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with a proven ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of audiences
  • Proven relationship-building skills with the ability to foster partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to achieve organizational goals
  • Demonstrated ability to model innovation and creativity
  • Proven record of engaging in ethical conduct
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in the areas of health law, labour relations and employment matters, corporate/commercial matters, contractual language, privacy and freedom of information policy, legal trends, risk, or general regulatory compliance
