In this pivotal role, you will act as a key resource for all compliance and regulatory issues, providing expert guidance on behalf of the Legal department at Meta Cannabis Co. This position will report directly to the Vice President of Legal.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Legal and Compliance/Regulatory team, utilizing your expertise to deliver practical legal solutions that support our business objectives.
  • Conduct thorough regulatory assessments and analyses, including relevant Canadian and international laws.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable authority on the legal and regulatory landscape governing the sale and distribution of cannabis and related products.
  • Assist the Vice President and Legal Counsel in recognizing and evaluating legal risks, while formulating strategies to mitigate those risks and safeguard the interests of Meta Cannabis Co.
  • Act as a legal consultant and partner with external legal firms on litigation matters.
  • Work closely with the Director of Compliance to oversee the planning and management of legal and regulatory activities as mandated by governing authorities.
  • Fulfill the role of Privacy Officer, establishing and implementing appropriate protocols.
  • Lead compliance initiatives related to SOX within the legal department.
  • Manage and respond to regulatory inquiries, ensuring compliance with applicable privacy regulations.
  • Perform regular compliance checks across various aspects of the business.
  • Supervise external legal resources effectively.
  • In conjunction with the Legal and Compliance team, refine precedent contracts and enhance contract management processes, identifying opportunities for increased efficiency.
  • Create tools that empower our business to operate swiftly and effectively.
  • Address additional legal review and drafting needs as required by the business.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor degree, with membership in a Provincial Bar in good standing.
  • A minimum of 5 years of pertinent legal experience.
  • Strong emphasis on risk management, compliance, and regulatory knowledge.
  • Familiarity with SOX compliance is advantageous.
