Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Legal and Compliance team, utilizing your expertise to offer practical legal solutions that support our business objectives.
  • Conduct thorough regulatory assessments and analyses, focusing on relevant legislation both domestically and internationally.
  • Serve as a key resource on the legal and regulatory landscape governing the sale and distribution of cannabis products.
  • Assist senior legal management in identifying potential legal risks and formulating strategies to mitigate them effectively.
  • Act as a legal authority and liaise with external legal firms regarding any litigation issues.
  • Work closely with the Compliance Director to oversee the planning and management of legal and regulatory operations in accordance with governmental regulations.
  • Fulfill the role of Privacy Officer, establishing and implementing appropriate privacy protocols.
  • Lead initiatives related to compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) regulations within the legal department.
  • Manage responses to regulatory inquiries, ensuring compliance with applicable privacy laws.
  • Perform regular compliance checks across various aspects of the business operations.
  • Supervise external legal support and ensure alignment with company objectives.
  • In conjunction with the Legal and Compliance team, refine contract templates and enhance contract management processes.
  • Develop tools and resources that empower our teams to operate efficiently.
  • Address additional legal review and drafting needs as required by the business.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor degree and active membership in a Provincial Bar.
  • A minimum of 5 years of pertinent legal experience, particularly in risk management, compliance, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Familiarity with SOX compliance is advantageous.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Interest in the cannabis retail industry.
