About the Role

The Chief Operating & Process Control Officer will report to the Production Manager and be responsible for planning and controlling the plant's production operations. This role will lead high-priority and complex projects within the production department, requiring a strong technical background and ability to create and maintain accurate records.

The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated ability to organize and develop a Work Management System that meets regulatory and production quality control requirements. They will be a detail-oriented and results-driven individual with a strong understanding of food manufacturing, planning, GMP, and root cause analysis.

This role is critical in ensuring the highest quality product and creating an environment where employees take pride in their work. The Officer will emphasize food quality, safety, and security, complying with all government legislation and the expectations of Canada Royal Milk's customers.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Oversee the production processes and monitor day-to-day production, leading problem-solving and adjustments to stay on production plan with products and efficiency.
  2. Review daily operations, paperwork, and reports from production staff to check accuracy and report deviations; confer with technical staff and production supervisors to resolve production or processing problems.
  3. Liaise with other departments, including Quality, Maintenance, Engineering, R&D, Marketing, Supply Chain, HR, and HSE.
  4. Participate in and lead continuous improvement initiatives to improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), reduce manufacturing loss, reduce labor costs, optimize inventory levels, and improve manufacturing operations without sacrificing quality.
  5. Assist the Production Manager in setting and implementing objectives and action plans to achieve production Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and deliver results.
  6. Review new and current product specifications, revising existing specifications, and making recommendations.
  7. Develop, implement, and maintain production Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), including documentation and training for production employees.
  8. Ensure timely and thorough sanitation of all equipment and facilities to allow for efficient and on-time production start-up and delivery of products to customers.
  9. Follow and administer Quality Policies and Procedures, including food safety, HACCP, traceability, and production hold investigations.
  10. Troubleshoot process areas by identifying and analyzing process problems and advising and guiding processing operators on actions required to resolve malfunctions to ensure efficient running of the plant.
  11. Plan, organize, control, and evaluate plant production operations while continually striving for improvements to increase efficiency.
  12. Develop plans to efficiently use materials, labor, and equipment to meet production targets.
  13. Participate in the oversight and inspection of manufacturing equipment installation and testing, ensuring safety and compliance at every stage.
  14. Develop and oversee the implementation of production tracking or quality control systems, analyzing production, quality control, maintenance, or other operational reports to detect production problems.
  15. Ensure that all team members are familiar with and practice Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  16. Perform other duties as assigned by the Production Manager.
Working Conditions

The standard office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. Most work occurs during regular weekday office hours. However, as an international company with continuous 24-7 operations, hours of work may vary to accommodate business needs. Flexible hours are required and may include evening and weekend hours from time to time.

As a dairy processor and infant formula manufacturer, CRM strives to exceed regulatory requirements for food safety, quality, hygiene, and good manufacturing practices. All employees who enter the processing areas for any reason must comply with all food safety protocols in addition to health and safety best practices.

Most work is performed in an office environment, with some requirements to work in other areas of the facility as needed. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee frequently is required to walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand. The employee must frequently lift or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move objects up to 25 pounds.
