About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Practical Nurse to join our team at peopleCare Communities.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Registered Nurse and report to the Director of Care, providing nursing and personal care to residents. This position may assume the duties of charge nurse in an assigned unit and is responsible for complying with all legislative standards, company policies/procedures, and rules/regulations in a professional manner.

Responsibilities
  • Provide high-quality nursing care to residents, including assisting with daily routines and functions such as bathing, dressing, undressing, and eating meals as required.
  • Review 24-72 hour reports at the beginning of each shift and follow and process physician orders.
  • Administer medications and treatments within the limitations set by the College of Nurses.
  • Monitor the conditions of residents and report changes in physical or mental conditions to the Registered Nurse.
  • Ensure observance with required techniques in nursing care and be responsible for resident safety according to role.
  • Participate in the development and modification of resident plans of care and assist in implementing/evaluating their effectiveness.
  • Monitor residents' health and note any changes in condition appropriately.
  • Assist in maintaining resident records, including documentation in compliance with established standards and legislative requirements.
  • Cooperate in the provision of life enrichment programs for residents and participate in restorative care programs.
  • Notify the Registered Nurse of incidents or accidents and complete appropriate forms.
  • Assist in training and directing non-registered nursing staff in providing care to residents under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
  • Collaborate with other members of the healthcare team and maintain a cooperative relationship with other staff members.
  • Participate in meetings and committees and perform other related functions as directed by supervisor.
  • Assume responsibility for the operation of the unit under the direction of the Registered Nurse as required.
  • Participate in the quality assurance process and ongoing activities, including quality assurance meetings, following the quality assurance model, and contributing to the performance assessment of non-registered nursing staff.
  • Follow all health and safety and safe work practices and guidelines, identify and correct inappropriate work practices that may affect the health and safety of coworkers, display an attitude focused on working safely, use safe work practices, and report any actual or potential hazards to the immediate supervisor.
Requirements
  • Current Medication Administration Certificate or equivalent.
  • Current certificate of competency from the College of Nurses of Ontario, in good standing.
  • Experience in Long-Term Care considered an asset.
  • Registered with a regulatory body.
  • Experience working with seniors and unregulated care providers.
  • Education and/or experience in gerontology, rehabilitation, community/complex/long-term care an asset.
  • Must possess strong written and oral communication, critical thinking, care coordination, time management, and customer focus skills.
  • Skills in the use of computer and Microsoft Office applications.
Compensation and Benefits

We offer a competitive salary range of $85,000 - $110,000 per year, depending on experience, plus comprehensive benefits and opportunities for career growth and development.
