At Nova Scotia Barristers' Society, we are seeking an experienced Senior Corporate Lawyer to join our team as a member of the Legal Services department.

About the Role

The ideal candidate will have successfully completed a law degree and be licensed and a member in good standing with the Law Society in one of the four Atlantic provinces. This is a permanent full-time position with a competitive salary range of $102,485 - $120,570, commensurate with experience.

This role provides legal services to Atlantic Central and LSM, including drafting and reviewing legal agreements, conducting research, and developing policies and procedures. The successful candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with the Executive Leadership Team and other departments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Drafts and reviews legal agreements, resolutions, by-laws, and other documents on behalf of Atlantic Central, LSM, and the Atlantic credit union system.
  • Develops and updates legal templates and precedents.
  • Conducts legal research and analysis and works with external legal counsel as necessary to provide legal opinions and advice on various issues.
  • Develops, recommends, and manages the Legal Services Department's annual business goals and budget.
  • Supervises and coordinates the activities of the Legal Services summer student.
  • Collects and organizes corporate and contractual information and manages the company-wide document and contract management systems.
Requirements
  • Successful completion of a law degree.
  • Licensed and a member in good standing with the Law Society in one of the four Atlantic provinces.
  • Relevant experience of 2-5 years or equivalent combination of training and experience.
