We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Family Law Specialist to join our team at the Legal Services Division of the Department of Justice in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

As a Senior Family Law Specialist, you will be responsible for providing expert advice on family law matters, representing the government in court proceedings, and collaborating with other teams to achieve departmental goals.

About Us

The Legal Services Division is the government's primary source of legal advice. Our team of experienced lawyers provides counsel on a wide range of legal issues affecting the province, including family law, civil litigation, and administrative law.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on complex family law cases, develop and implement strategies to resolve disputes, and build relationships with key stakeholders, including government officials, clients, and other lawyers.

Responsibilities
  • Provide expert advice on family law matters to government officials and other clients;
  • Represent the government in court proceedings, including appearances before the Supreme Court (Family Division) and the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal;
  • Collaborate with other teams within the Legal Services Division to develop and implement strategies to resolve family law disputes;
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including government officials, clients, and other lawyers;
Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A strong background in family law, including experience in litigating complex family law cases;
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills;
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Strong organizational and time management skills;
