Senior Research Facility Manager

The University of Waterloo seeks a highly skilled and experienced Senior Research Facility Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of the Giga-to-Nanoelectronics (G2N) Lab. This is a unique opportunity to lead a world-class facility that focuses on the applications of nanocrystalline silicon technology for solar cell research, display technology, and sensor and imaging devices.
Key Responsibilities- Manage the facility's operations, including supervision and training of laboratory technical and research staff, and graduate and undergraduate students.
- Ensure the facility operates on a revenue-neutral basis, with expenses offset by charges to users.
- Develop and implement maintenance procedures to maintain the quality and availability of the facility for research.
- Source major assets for laboratory upgrades and expansion to meet new research requirements.
- Ensure researchers receive necessary training on safety and laboratory procedures.
- Manage human resources, including staff performance and attendance records, scheduling workloads, and conducting performance appraisals.
- Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemistry, or Materials Science. PhD Degree is preferred.
- 10+ years' experience in industrial research and manufacturing with a strong background in Electrical Engineering, Chemistry, and Materials Science.
- Strong background in troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing high vacuum systems.
- Excellent familiarity with precision optical systems, furnace technology, electronic controllers, robotics, gas delivery systems, and metrology tools.
