Job Summary

We are seeking a seasoned Director Contract Management and Finance to join our team at Western University. This is a senior leadership role that requires strategic leadership and financial management expertise in the post-award administration and financial management of research funds awarded to the university and its researchers.

About the Role

As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and advancing operational practices through the development and oversight of business processes, financial controls, and stewardship/risk management functions. You will ensure the financial reporting and audit obligations related to research funds are achieved while promoting adherence to institutional policies and practices as well as to the guidelines and regulations of government sponsors, not-for-profit organizations, and private sector businesses supporting research activities at Western.

You will report directly to the Associate Vice-President, Financial Services, and will be a key member of the senior leadership team of Financial Services, supporting Western's strategic plan and research mission by providing financial guidance, advice, and expertise to various stakeholders across the university, including associate vice-presidents, directors, finance managers, financial officers, administrative staff, and researchers.

Key Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will have an undergraduate degree in business management/administration, finance, or a related field, coupled with 10 years of experience leading and managing professional staff, experience managing a financial control and reporting environment, and experience in strategic planning, project management, and implementation, operationalization, and contract management. Additionally, they will possess in-depth knowledge of financial budgeting and principles, accounting principles, and fund accounting, as well as the ability to draw on diversity of skills, backgrounds, and knowledge of people to achieve effective results.

Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must have:
  • An undergraduate degree in business management/administration, finance, or a related field.
  • 10 years' experience leading and managing professional staff.
  • Experience managing a financial control and reporting environment.
  • Experience in strategic planning, project management, and implementation, operationalization, and contract management.
  • In-depth knowledge of financial budgeting and principles.
  • Ability to draw on diversity of skills, backgrounds, and knowledge of people to achieve effective results.

What We Offer
