About the Role

The City of Vancouver is seeking a highly skilled Civil Engineer I to join our Traffic Management team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing technical leadership and expertise in traffic management planning, design, and implementation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Represent the Traffic Management Branch in discussions with stakeholders and external partners to ensure effective traffic management planning and coordination.
  • Review and provide engineering oversight of curbside patio implementations to ensure compliance with City policies and regulations.
  • Develop and review traffic management plans for special events and construction projects to minimize traffic impacts and ensure public safety.
  • Supervise and coordinate the development of traffic management plans for large-scale events, such as FIFA Host City events.
  • Oversee the implementation of traffic management plans for special events and construction projects.
  • Develop and review geometric designs and plans for traffic control devices, traffic safety measures, and signal timing plans.
  • Assist in responding to unplanned events that involve traffic disruption, including potential deployment of the Emergency Operations Centre.
  • Represent the Traffic Management team during Emergency Operations Centre activations.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, preferably with a focus in Transportation or eligibility to register as a professional engineer with EGBC.
  • Previous education and/or experience with developing or reviewing construction traffic management plans and working with contractors, third-party agencies, and other City departments to coordinate construction activities.
  • Working knowledge of transportation engineering principles and techniques, including traffic management plans for construction.
  • Working knowledge of traffic management principles for emergency response.
  • Working knowledge of the City's transportation policies.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a dynamic team environment with little supervision.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with co-workers, stakeholders, and external transportation partners.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Strong written/verbal communication skills and ability to speak and present in public.
