We are seeking a highly skilled Civil Engineer I to join our Traffic Management team at the City of Vancouver. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing technical leadership and expertise in traffic management planning, design, and implementation.
Key Responsibilities- Represent the Traffic Management Branch in discussions with stakeholders and external partners to ensure effective traffic management planning and coordination.
- Review and provide engineering oversight of curbside patio implementations to ensure compliance with City policies and regulations.
- Develop and review traffic management plans for special events and construction projects to minimize traffic impacts and ensure public safety.
- Supervise and coordinate the development of traffic management plans for major events, including FIFA Host City events.
- Oversee the implementation of traffic management plans for major events and construction projects.
- Develop and review geometric designs and plans for traffic control devices, traffic safety measures, and signal timing plans.
- Assist in responding to unplanned events that involve traffic disruption, including potential deployment of the Emergency Operations Centre.
- Represent the Traffic Management position during Emergency Operations Centre activations.
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, preferably with a focus in Transportation or eligibility to register as a professional engineer with EGBC.
- Previous education and/or experience with developing or reviewing construction traffic management plans and working with contractors, third-party agencies, and other City departments to coordinate construction activities.
- Working knowledge of transportation engineering principles and techniques, including traffic management plans for construction.
- Working knowledge of traffic management principles for emergency response.
- Working knowledge of the City's transportation policies.
- Demonstrated ability to work well in a dynamic team environment with little supervision.
- Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with co-workers, stakeholders, and external transportation partners.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Strong written/verbal communication skills and ability to speak and present in public.
