Job Overview


We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical Maintenance Specialist to join our team at Barrick. As an integral part of our Plant Department, you will report to the Surface Electrical Supervisor and be responsible for maintaining and repairing electrical equipment hardware and software in our 8500 TPD mechanized underground gold mine.



Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with environmental, health and safety Acts, policies and procedures.
  • Maintain adequate accident prevention practices by reviewing and recommending improvements and procedures.
  • Investigate hazards and implement remedial actions in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment through proper training and adherence to operating procedures, PPE, and equipment operation.
  • Attend daily group safety meetings to communicate safety instructions, information, and gather concerns.
  • Work within daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance plans to ensure availability of manpower, equipment, tools, service, and resources.
  • Identify and organize resources required for these plans, including personnel, equipment, and services, to achieve established production targets.
  • Perform physical inspections to ensure work meets company standards regarding quality, production, and safety.
  • Recommend measures or changes to improve production methods, equipment performance, and use of equipment and personnel to increase departmental efficiency.
  • Ensure all work completed supports activities of subsequent shifts and communicates these activities to supervision.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly shift reports as required.
  • Complete operational checks monitoring quality and productivity to ensure established standards are met.
  • Complete all required housekeeping audits.
  • Demonstrate ability, skills, and knowledge to work with high voltages in an industrial setting.
  • Maintain a high standard of workmanship under time constraints associated with plant downtime.
  • The role may involve interruption to electrical supplies, requiring special attention to impacts on the broader working environment.
  • Individuals may be called upon to assist in UG troubleshooting and new installations.
  • Understand technical components of the job and use technical knowledge or skills to safely complete tasks.
  • Schedule own work to prioritize important tasks, plan materials, and adjust schedules based on priority situations.
  • Critique own performance for self-improvement and set high standards of work performance.
  • Diagnose problems and share solutions to create learning experiences.
  • Provide reports as required for decision-making, period reporting, and budgeting purposes.
  • Anticipate and implement solutions to problems that may occur in operations through trouble-shooting and problem-solving.
  • Implement and adhere to all company policies and directives.
  • Optimize the use of operating consumables to minimize costs.
  • Actively participate in Continuous Improvement activities to improve all areas of the mine, ensuring alignment with Company goals.
  • Promote and encourage employees to establish a continuous improvement culture.
  • Instruct and train co-workers to ensure adherence to company procedures, guidelines, and relevant government legislation.
  • Foster proper working relations with all other departments, including contractor relationships.
  • Communicate with Supervisor, Superintendent (if required), and other employees to review direction, resolve problems, recommend priorities, and corrective measures.
  • Receive and give accurate, timely feedback to Supervisor, employees, and other groups.
  • Identify and communicate maintenance priorities to other departments.
  • Ensure operating objectives and targets are effectively communicated to crew.

    Requirements

    • Educated to a degree in Electrical Engineering Technologist or have extensive programming experience with industrial electrical certification.
    • Industrial electrical certification (Red Seal) would be an asset.
    • Experience with GE, DC Drives, GE PLC Systems, and Auto CAD.
    • Approximately five years of technical experience.
    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Able to perform duties in a safe and efficient manner.
    • Experience with Proficy, iFix HMI / SCADA, Delta V, SAP.
    • Knowledge of Industrial Communications Systems.
    • Underground basic common core is an asset.

        Estimated Salary Range
        $80,000 - $120,000 per annum, depending on experience.
