Job Summary:

The Manager, Academic and Administrative Operations role is a key position at York University, responsible for the effective implementation of client-centered services and operations management support to assigned areas across the Faculty/Division. This role works in partnership with diverse groups of academic and administrative leaders to determine operational priorities, manage the day-to-day activities of administrative and/or technical staff, and ensure alignment to the vision, mission, values, and strategic direction of the University.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement project initiatives and manage change to drive operational excellence and continuous improvements.
  • Provide superior customer support to academic and administrative leaders, fostering an environment of trust, support, and accountability.
  • Model respect for employees and champion a culture of service excellence with a focus on achieving the University Academic Priorities.
  • Support sustainability, equity, diversity, and inclusion at York University.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant discipline, such as business, finance, or human resources management.
  • 3 years management experience in a unionized environment, including experience leading multiple diverse teams in an environment of continuous change.
  • Knowledge of functional operations processes in large organizations, collective agreements, and academic and research processes.
  • Understanding of process improvement, project management principles, and change management methodologies and tools.
  • Effective leadership skills, ability to lead, influence, motivate teams, and foster innovation.
  • Ability to develop integrity and handle confidential, politically sensitive issues, and difficult situations in a tactful and diplomatic manner.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across varied partner audiences.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of organizational governance structures, department operations, and undergraduate/graduate program structures.
  • Knowledge of financial management, procurement, workforce planning and budgeting.
  • Awareness of priorities and political trends in higher education, along with knowledge of the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem.
