Safety Manager Job Description

Sharp Trucking Services is seeking an experienced Safety Manager to join our team in Edmonton. The Safety Manager will report to the Director of Safety and be responsible for ensuring compliance with legislation and safety programs, policies, and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Monitor and maintain compliance with Federal, Provincial, and local safety laws and regulations.
  • Coordinate safety programs and policies, and instruct truck and trailer drivers on traffic and safety regulations and equipment care.
  • Conduct driving assessments and implement training in Trip Inspection, Federal Hours of Service, Weights and Dimensions, and Cargo.
  • Coach and mentor drivers to understand their compliance obligations and health and safety responsibilities.
  • Monitor reports to ensure driver compliance with legislation and identify areas for improvement.
  • Represent the company in Alberta Court of Law as required.
  • Provide consultation, conduct work observations, and workplace inspections to identify hazards and risks.
  • Contribute to incident, accident, and violation investigation and implement initiatives to reduce reoccurrences.
  • Collaborate with management to establish compliance goals and develop action plans to achieve them.
Requirements:
  • 5+ years of related experience in Health and Safety.
  • Valid Class 1 License.
  • Advanced knowledge of National Safety Code & Standards, Health and Safety legislation, and Hazard Recognition, Assessment, and Control.
  • Considerable experience in safe equipment operating procedures within the trucking and transportation industry.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
