About the Role

Algonquin College is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Student Development Support Coordinator to join our Academic Access Centre team.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, delivering, and supporting programming that addresses students' personal and educational needs in the AAADD program. This role requires working in a classroom setting and one-on-one with adults with developmental disabilities to help students develop their academic skills and build social skills within a college environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide regular assessments of students' development and meet with parents, social workers, and/or counsellors to discuss future goals.
  • Attend and evaluate indoor and outdoor activities to promote physical health and development, including field trips.
  • Train PT replacement staff, DSW students on field placement, and other hires.
Support
  • Promote the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development of students, and maintain a positive ongoing communication and liaison with parents, social workers, and/or counsellors as well as identifying needs.
  • Provide first aid in emergency situations, according to policies and procedures.
Advisory Committee
  • Coordinate Advisory Committee activities held in the evenings.
  • Develop and maintain close links with the community, K-12 schools, and families to help promote the program; conduct presentations in schools and community agencies, or attend College events.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum two (2) year diploma or equivalent in Developmental Service Worker Program, BA in Social Work, BEd, special education, or equivalent or related field.
Anticipated Schedule

This position requires regular on-site work at Algonquin College's Woodroffe Campus.
