About the Role

We're seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist to join our engineering division, Skynet Software. As a key member of our team, you'll contribute to the development of severe natural hazard models and their applications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with a team of scientists and engineers to develop and implement advanced risk models.
  • Conduct critical evaluations of scientific literature and engage with industry experts to inform solution development.
  • Develop and maintain high-performance scientific code in Python, leveraging libraries and packages to ensure modularity, speed, and ease of use.
  • Manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables, utilizing your technical expertise to drive results.
  • Calibrate and validate model components, including benchmarking to historical events.
  • Research and augment datasets from various sources, ensuring statistical credibility and accuracy.
  • Evaluate model outputs using GIS tools, providing insights into time and space.
Requirements
  • BSc, MSc, or PhD in Applied Mathematics or Physics, with a strong research track record.
  • Expertise in writing high-performance scientific code in Python.
  • Broad knowledge of mathematical modelling, numerical solutions to differential equations, optimization, uncertainty quantification, and Monte Carlo simulations.
  • Experience with statistical evaluation of large, multi-dimensional datasets.
  • Demonstrated experience running computer-based experiments with geophysical applications.
  • Experience in academia or industry on related topics post PhD is beneficial.
  • Catastrophe modelling experience, such as flood, wildfire, or severe weather, is highly desirable.
