About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the City of Ottawa's Health Equity, Diversity and Inclusion unit as a Indigenous Health and Community Liaison Specialist.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the implementation and evaluation of the OPH Reconcili-Action plan. This includes advising on building capacity for meaningful engagement with Indigenous organizations and communities to support population health. The incumbent will develop and implement a strategic organizational approach to Indigenous cultural safety, including internal education and capacity building activities, and develop an engagement and relationship building strategy with Indigenous organizations and communities.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on Indigenous health and wellness issues, providing advice and guidance to stakeholders and colleagues.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with Indigenous organizations and communities, fostering collaboration and partnerships to advance health equity and inclusion goals.
  • Conduct research and analysis on emerging trends and issues affecting Indigenous populations, informing policy and program development.
  • Provide input on the development of policies and procedures related to Indigenous cultural safety and reconciliation.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in a relevant field, such as Indigenous Studies, Social Work, Public Policy, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience working with Indigenous organizations and communities, preferably in a leadership or advisory capacity.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Indigenous health and wellness issues, including knowledge of current events and trends.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong focus on collaboration and partnership-building.
