Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior System Safety Engineer to join our team at Weir Canada, Inc. in Dartmouth, NS.

About the Role

This is a permanent full-time position that involves providing Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V) support in the field of System Safety Engineering (SSE) for the Canadian Surface Combatant (CSC) project.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Providing System Safety Engineering advice across stakeholders, conducting reviews of contractor-provided safety plans, processes, and procedures, hazard analysis activities, logs, and reports.
  • Developing SSE standards, processes, and procedures including related test requirements, plans, and procedures.
  • Providing technical support to lifecycle phase reviews, supporting system safety engineering working groups, and implementing standards and processes such as those defined in US MIL-STD-882E and Def-Stan 00-056.
  • Collaborating with team members to communicate technical concepts to individuals at all levels, including customers and suppliers, verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrating a commitment to zero harm behaviors in support of developing a world-class safety culture.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, or in Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience developing and working with Safety Management Systems and Hazard Tracking Systems, implementing SSE processes on complex projects.
  • Familiarity with SSE tools and techniques such as Bow-Tie Diagram, Event Tree Analysis, Fault Tree Analysis, FMEA/FMECA, Functional Safety Analysis, Hazard Analysis, SWIFT Analysis, HAZOP, Goal Structuring Notation, Claim Trees, and Consequence Analysis.
