About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Education Specialist to join our team at the University of Waterloo. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a talented group of professionals who are passionate about promoting a culture of respect, inclusivity, and social responsibility.
Job Summary
The Education Specialist will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive education plan that focuses on sexual and gender-based violence prevention, intervention, and support. This role will involve working closely with faculty, staff, and students to identify gaps in current programming and develop innovative solutions to address these needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a trauma-informed approach to education and training that prioritizes the safety and well-being of all individuals
- Work with stakeholders to design and deliver programs, workshops, and training sessions that promote healthy relationships, consent, and bystander intervention
- Provide guidance and support to faculty and staff on creating inclusive and respectful environments for all students
- Collaborate with campus partners to coordinate regular program evaluation, campus audits, and consultations in conformity with university and ministry requirements
- Stay up-to-date with best practices in sexual violence education and response, and apply this knowledge to inform program development and delivery
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Education, Gender Studies, Sexuality and Women's Studies, Criminology, Social Work, Sociology, Community Psychology, etc.)
- 5+ years of progressive experience in sexual and gender-based violence prevention education, trauma-informed approaches, human rights
- 3+ years of professional experience providing support and/or counseling to survivors of interpersonal violence
- Strong understanding of intersectional, feminist, trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and anti-racist practices relating to sexual and gender-based violence
- Experience integrating best practices in program development, implementation, and delivery
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
