Silgan Containers is a leading manufacturer of plastic containers, and we are seeking an experienced Human Resources Coordinator to join our team in Lachine, Montreal. As a key member of our HR department, you will play a vital role in supporting the day-to-day operations of our facility.

Our ideal candidate will have 3+ years of experience in HR, with a strong understanding of employment laws and practices. You will be responsible for managing the administration of HR policies, procedures, and programs, including facility safety. This includes originating and leading HR practices and objectives that promote an employee-oriented, high-performance culture.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Development of the Human Resources Department
    • Assist with the development and administration of programs, procedures, and guidelines to align the workforce with strategic goals.
    • Participate in developing department goals, objectives, and systems.
    • Attend department staff meetings and other meetings/seminars.
  • Human Resource Information Systems
    • Process weekly payroll for hourly employees, including updating timecards in UKG with shift changes, overtime, and premiums.
    • Maintain Workday (HCM) for the Lachine Plant. Prepare and analyze reports for department functions and company needs.
    • Utilize Human Resources software to benefit the company.
    • Partner with accounting and corporate payroll to maintain payroll databases.
    • Collaborate with Plant Leadership on key HR Metrics.
  • Training and Development
    • Assist with utilizing the Learning Management System (LMS), including safety training and human resources training. Load monthly training modules and generate statistics and payouts through payroll.
    • E nsure plant employees complete required training per established deadlines.
    • Access company training needs, including new employee onboarding, management development, production cross-training, and safety.
    • Assist managers with external training programs and consultants when needed.
    • Provide education and materials to managers and employees, including workshops, handbooks, and reports.
    • Maintain employee training records.
  • Employment
    • Manage recruitment processes for hourly and salaried employees using necessary procedures.
    • Conduct interviews for employment as needed.
    • Review resumes and interview hourly candidates.
    • Serve on employee selection meetings and the safety committee.
    • Contact employees to ensure all positions are staffed.
  • Employee Relations
    • Assist with developing HR policies for employee relations and safety.
    • Partner with management to communicate HR/Safety policies, procedures, and programs.
    • Promote corporate programs that foster employee engagement.
    • Recommend employee relations practices for positive employer-employee relationships and employee morale.
    • Participate in investigations of employee complaints or concerns.
    • Advise managers on employment issues and counsel them accordingly.
  • Safety
    • Maintain the Corporate Safety Manual for the Lachine plant. Ensure site-specific programs are written and maintained.
    • Assist with implementing company safety and health programs. Track and post CNESST-required data and files reports.
    • Facilitate monthly safety meetings and plant-wide initiatives as determined necessary.
    • Ensure completion and documentation of monthly safety training for all staff members.
    • Administer and publicize the corporate Safety Bingo program at the plant.
    • Administer all Safety Draws and Lunches/Dinners at the plant.
    • Maintain and complete monthly safety statistics for the facility.
    • Promote a culture of safety actively.
  • Benefits
    • Provide day-to-day benefits administration services. Assist employees with claim issues.
    • Develop and schedule benefits onboarding and complete open enrollment annually.
    • Review and file workers' compensation claims and work with safety on claims management.
    • Recommend changes in benefits offered, especially those aimed at employee satisfaction and retention.
  • Plant Administrative Duties
    • Meet and greet visitors to the plant. Direct the use of iLobby as required.
    • Answer and direct incoming calls.
    • File documents as required.
    • Receive and distribute front office mail and courier.
    • Organize outgoing postal and courier shipments.
    • Order and organize office supplies.
    • Scan invoices for Accounts Payable.
  • Legal Compliance
    • Comply with governmental and labor legal requirements with the CNESST and other government agencies.
    • Maintain minimal company exposure to lawsuits.
    • Protect employee and company interests according to company HR policies and laws.
  • Organization Development
    • Assist with organization development addressing succession planning, workforce development, communication, and feedback.
    • Monitor the so it supports company goals and promotes employee satisfaction.
    • Assist with committees, including wellness, training, environmental health and safety, activity, and culture communications.
