About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Indigenous Cultural Safety Specialist to join our team at Community Living BC. As a key member of our Indigenous Relations team, you will play a critical role in advancing Indigenous Cultural Safety and promoting cultural humility throughout our organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a cultural safety framework and plan that aligns with the values and strategic direction of our organization and the community inclusion movement.
  • Support the development of strategic priorities to address the needs of Indigenous self-advocates and their families, in accordance with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) and its principles.
  • Collaborate with the Indigenous Advisory Committee, CLBC staff, community partners, and other internal/external stakeholders to lead the organization in enhancing Indigenous people's access to our services.
  • Provide province-wide leadership on matters concerning Indigenous self-advocates and their families, working closely with Head Office Departments and Regional Operations to lead engagement with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit people.
  • Develop innovative approaches to advancing our relationships with Indigenous individuals and communities, and provide expert advice on the application of various legislations and policy.
Requirements
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a related field, with a Master of Education degree preferred.
  • At least five years of experience working in both government systems and with Indigenous Peoples in the community.
  • Experience in education, curriculum development, training, and research is an asset.
